Module 5 — Long-Term Outcomes · Episode 19
Reflux is common
Gastroesophageal reflux is common after CDH, related to how the anatomy and pressures change after repair. It can affect comfort, feeding, and sometimes the lungs.
How it is managed
Management ranges from positioning and feeding adjustments to medicines, and, in some children, a surgical procedure to reduce reflux. The approach is tailored to severity.
Growth
Because feeding and reflux can limit intake, growth is watched closely, often with the help of a dietitian. Catch-up growth is common once feeding is established. Steady tracking, rather than any single weight, is what the team follows.
